Hello, I’m Emily and I’m the Chair of Songbirds!
I was recruited by Kate, who had spent nearly three years telling me how much fun the choir is, and in January 2015 I decided to take her advice – of course I’m very pleased that I did! I was lucky to join at the same time that Rosie became Musical Director, so the music was new to everyone, not just me.
I very quickly fell in love with Songbirds and decided to stand for election to the Committee in 2015. My role changed a couple of times before I was voted in as Chair at the AGM in 2017. Being Chair means I lead our Committee meetings and act as a point of contact for the choir. I also arrange socials and send our weekly newsletter, FlockMail.
My vision for Songbirds is for us to keep growing and getting new members. I am dedicated to making the choir as inclusive and welcoming as possible, and I am always looking for new ways to make this happen (suggestions are very welcome). I want as many people as possible to enjoy the benefits of being a member of Songbirds: being part of a community, having a support network, always having someone to turn to if you need it, and having a great time making lovely music!
Please feel free to contact me with any suggestions, questions or concerns.
When I’m not singing or Chairing, I work for a consultancy firm raising funds for charities and arts organisations, which is great fun and very rewarding. Currently I spend most of my spare time creating things (upcycling furniture is my favourite), learning Welsh (shwmae) and being an overbearing mother to my kitten, Barley.
